All I wanted was a little peace and quiet. Instead, I've got dead Covenant members and a steady stream of letters from the new guy in town. His beverage of choice? A 2002 Merlot, with a shot or two of powerful virgin blood. On top of that, I'm breaking in a new police liaison, failing at playing matchmaker, and fighting nausea like it's a full time job. Did I forget to mention I've also got enough girls living at the Crossroads to start my own boarding school? Peace and quiet? Out the window.

Shades of Desire A Jude Magdalyn Novel L. M. Pruitt 9781456300289 Books Reviews

The entire Jude Magdalyn series was excellent. I really enjoyed all of the plot twists. It was not just a romance novel, which is why I decided to read it. For the price, I can honestly say, it was a steal.
This I an easy read, characters are believable and likable with the bad guys thrown in for suspense. Jude is unpredictable
I really enjoyed Shades of Desire because it was different, exciting and hard to put down. I'm looking forward to another by L.M. Pruitt!
Love this series, the characters are fresh and alive (well not all) the drama is thick, and never ending. Jude is a warm caring motherly type who kicks ass if anyone messes with her clan.
I really enjoy this series. Almost too many characters, but the author handles them well and you find yourself remembering everyone easily. Nice witty dialog (okay, sarcastic dialog LOL) but its fun. I enjoyed the trip!
I enjoy her characters tremendously but her plotlines always have so many holes in them. The main characters miss answering questions about how events occur and then blunder around from crises to crises which could have been prevented with just a little thoughtfulness. I like to read her work, I just wish her stories were tighter and her main characters didn't go running off half cocked leaving main targets unprotected. It's just stupid mistakes which drive most of her story. I don't enjoy that.
Hi, I'm Sundance and I'm an avid reader - nothing more, nothing less. I don't profess to know that much about the art of writing but I humbly offer my take on the art of reading.....

I've been addicted to paranormal/alternate history/ books before 'Twilight' was a twinkling on the far distant horizon. I read the 'True Blood'Sookie Stackhouse 8-copy Boxed Set (Sookie Stackhouse/True Blood) series before it was a series and long before there was a whiff of a possibility of it being a TV show. I guess you could say (as an energetic reader) I've been around for a while. It is always great to find a new book/series that will keep me looking for more. The Jude Magdalyn series / Shades of desire qualifies for me and here's why.

The characters are a refreshing mix and connect well throughout the book - there is a definite feeling of family that builds with each interaction and provides a solid foundation for the banter and 'in house' humour/jokes that flow through the storyline and draws you further into the Covenant fold. The characters range in age and background is surprising yet blends together well in a modern dysfunctional family kind of way. There are some good relationship choices here too that step away from the normal or expected which I think also strengthens the characters personalities. Jude is definitely a breath of fresh air - I particularly like her quirky take on situations, her determination to do her best for those she cares about and her humour, she is someone you can relate to and that you'd want on your team.

We are introduced to the Covenant world through Jude - as she fumbles through the mire of the responsibilities, relationships, skill learning and knowledge building so do we - making each step, success and failure something that binds the reader and Jude together.

The story line builds upon itself nicely, without the common and copious 'back tracking' to previous plot lines that seem to riddle some Paranormal fiction. Any 're-tell' is done with a whisper-light touch on the previous plot so as not to distract from the current action. This wins points with me because I prefer not to 're-read' background information more than I have to.

Overall a most enjoyable read and another series to add to my 'follow-on' list.
The good news this time is that this book is so much better edited then the first book of this series. I did enjoy the book a lot more due to this. Jude has all the trouble she can handle and then some this time. As leader of the Covenant, she is responsible for hundreds of people. Someone is killing female members of her group and it is up to her with the help of some of her close group of friends to find the culprit. There is lots of action and mystery though we learn early on who the culprit is. There's lots of new interesting characters and I really liked them-with a couple of exception(got to read the book to find out who). Jude is also called on to babysit lots and lots of young girls to keep them from the killer. This causes all kinds of new problems. This time Jude is able to time travel and take people along for the ride. She seems to be just scratching the surface of developing all her powers. And poor Elizabeth-she just can't get a break and keeps getting kidnapped. Jude is pregnant with twins now and it will be interesting how that all plays out in the next book or books? Not sure how many books there will be but I will be buying the next one too.New Orleans is the setting and almost seems like a character itself with all the descriptions and atmosphere depicted. If you like paranormal romances with a female lead that is funny, sarcastic and streetwise then you will probably enjoy this book.
