As a genre, the story is recognizable: two young men find themselves traversing a dream world, full of strange creatures. But it is the underlying story that makes this a wonderful read. It is about respect for others, whatever their looks, interests, or behavior. It is about bullying, and how bullies are made. And it is about coming out. This is a book for anybody who is interested in the world around them. The only reason I did not give it five stars is because it could have been edited a bit better. Would prefer to give this a 4.5 but I'll round up. Into the void was spectacular. I would like to see this turned into a movie or tv show in the future. The story was so sad, I cried while reading. I was reminded of over the garden wall as I read.
I loved this book! Great characters and plot...it really sucked me in and I couldn't put it down. Despite some darker themes, there was a thread of hope running through it and you couldn't help but root for the characters, despite how grim it looked at times. I look forward to reading more by Winston Yellick!
Mesmerizing story, a kind of Wizard of Oz with demons (not the flying monkey kind). Although Tobie and Sam do meet some incredibly imaginative, and insightful characters, who both help and hinder them on their journey back to where they once belonged. A page turner!
Quite a page turner, this one! The writing style is pretty cinematic and lends itself to a quick and easy read! Imagery and representation of themes were stunning! I can easily see this work adapted into a graphic novel or screenplay - it's that visual!
A story that immediately hooks you and takes down some dark winding paths. I lost sleep because I could not put my kindle down. The main characters are flawed and extremely interesting and the setting of the story is so unique it fills you with excited apprehension!
