An excellent insight into the dark side of old HOLLYWOOD. I loved the fact that he intermingled the fact with the fiction. You can draw your own conclusions about who's who and and certain times and places. Being an old movie buff, I loved it!!Tags : All That Glitters [V.C. As a part of the Landry series by V.C. Andrews, this book was very hard for me to find elsewhere because I believe it is out of print. V. C. Andrews lovers will love the twist and turns in this novel. As an avid book reader of all genres, I highly recommend this book and basically all of V.C.'s books.
Not the most desirable story line but a really good read all the same, i have read all the books in this series and really enjoyed them all, Virginia Andrews can always get you hooked in all her stories. I recommend
I couldn't finish this book It kept reading like it was all introduction and the main story never happened.
Ok good read but not one of his best.
I have most of the series of The Blue Hill Library books. The inspiring stories are so fun to delve into and easy to read. These authors' writing styles blend together seamlessly, it's hard to believe that there are different authors who have written these wonderful books. I personally love the Christian message throughout. The recipes are great, although I haven't tried all of them...YET. I highly recommend this collection to anyone.
I personally felt bad for Paul he was living in a dream/fantasy land. 2 worlds were destroyed when Ruby and Paul found out they were 1/2 brother and sister. They shared an intense romance that Paul never really got over. She was his first love. He loved her so much he would do anything for her. Therefore he came up with the idea that they should marry so that he can provide for her and pearl ao that they wouldn't miss anything life had to offer. Ofcourse with living conditions as brother and sister. I believe that he in his mind thought that with time or pretending to be someone else they could get over it and live as real husbands and wives do. It is sad he never let go of this dream he built for himself, pearl and Ruby. He developed a relationship with Pearl. I think Ruby was a little selfish through out this whole thing. How can you not see the damage it would cause Paul and how demented he is becoming. She should have never married Paul even if he agreed to do the things he said. Later in the book her baby's father Bue (who is also in love with Ruby) marries Ruby's evil twin sister Giselle who eventually gets bit by mosquitos and developes and infection of the brain. Beus wonderful idea is to switch Giselle & Ruby. Paul taking the ill Gisselle passing her off as Ruby; and Ruby & Pearl can go with Bue so they can live happily ever after ofcourse she has to pretend she is Giselle and is taking her neice while her mother Ruby is in recovery. There is nothing happy about PAUL's ending. He lost a daughter (pearl), Ruby (the woman he loved) and now he lives in this misery. He starts to take in Giselle as Ruby and because he is so heart broken he accepted to believe that the dying giselle was Ruby. Ruby does act as if she is a little worried but the the fact that her sister is dying and Paul is the only one at her side at every hour of the day tells me she's lived Giselles character a little too well. In the end i wish she didn't marry Paul but she did and i wish she should have stood her ground and said the truth from the beggining. That she is Ruby, and not none of that sneaky stuff she did.
PAUL..although yes a sicknning idea for wanting to marry his sisiter he had his reasons for helping Ruby and Pearl and to live only with their happiness and ofcourse a little hope in his heart. Yes that hope was wrong. In a way he was quite innocent. He was quite a beautiful and creative person through out the book. It would have been a beautiful love story if they weren't brother and sister.
In the same vein as his other Hollywood novel. "Crowned Heads", Tryon gives us 5 novellas about 5 glamorous Hollywood actresses. They all have a legendary agent in common which nicely connects all the novellas. But all is not glamour to their stories--there is also much grime that is a by-product of Hollywood excess. Tryon, who was a Hollywood actor for 15 years, shows us that there is a price to pay to be successful in Hollywood. This is Old Hollywood, so don't expect familiarity with today's Hollywood. It's fun to guess on which real-life actresses Tryon is basing the book's fictitious actresses.
This novel is narrated by a writer who weaves in and out of the lives of the actresses. I suspect some of the book is autobiographical even though Tryon has never stated this, As with all his books, Tryon has such a marvelous way with words that it's as if we are watching a movie.
I was happy to see most of Tryon's books put out on and I hope this signals a revival of interest in his works. He is much too underrated as an American writer.
